Movie Suggestion

If you're looking for something to watch, go see Little Miss Sunshine!

The movie is HILARIOUS!

Aaron and I saw it on Friday and both really enjoyed it...I think everyone in the theatre was laughing along too...especially the guy behind us who laughed at things that weren't even funny. When the movie ended, people clapped - including me. I can't say I have seen many movies recently that deserved a clap. Definitely as funny or more than Wedding Crashers or 40 Year Old Virgin, but a different, more subtle and clever humour.

I give it two thumbs and two big toes up!

Terrible song

I like Tom Cochrane....I like Life is a Highway...

I do NOT like the cover of Life is a Highway that I heard last week (maybe done by Rascal Flatts?).

It was TERRIBLE!!!! I don't recall ever having such a bad physical reaction to a song ever before. It seriously made me queasy...I don't suggest that you listen to it to see if I'm right. If you do, please listen at your own risk...and carry a barf bag!

Car Update

So apparently it doesn't seem possible that the damage to poor Sassy happened at the dealership...it has been suggested that I hit something and forgot. I don't think so! Any of you who know me, know that I am too anal to forget something like that - I would have freaked out right away and you all would have known. Anyway...the next most likely thing would be a hit in the parking lot. Knowing what happens in our new lot here at work, I'm not entirely surprised, but I guess I'll never really know :( In the meantime, I can't spend any money because it will be a costly thing for me to fix. I love to spend money, but this isn't the way that I like to spend it!

And another week begins...

So my weekend started with the discovery of the damage to my poor car. The only way I can figure it happened was when I took it in for service on Thursday. Poor Sassette (for those of you who don't know who Sassette was: Sassette was created by the other Smurflings (Nat, Snappy, and Slouchy) to keep them and Smurfette company. Unlike Smurfette, was much younger and a tomboy. Of course, when you and Smurfette are the only females in an predominantly all-male village, you have to stick together.)!

I'm having problems uploading my pictures here, but you can view pictures of the damage at my Picasa site.

On Saturday, I managed to slice a hole in my fingernail straight through to the skin below. So I now have a hole in the middle of my pinky fingernail that is rather uncomfortable and just thinking about it makes me queasy. On a side note, Aaron did get a very nice suit when we went shopping earlier in the day.

Sunday Aaron, Mom, Dad and I tore down a large storage unit that was in the basement - it looks a million times better now! Took us 2 hours and was 0.17 tons of materials that we carted out of there. Later in the day I managed to take a chunk out of my leg with my finger nail.

All in all, the weekend wasn't the most relaxing and I'm now exhausted and my nerves are wearing thin. I'll keep you updated on the car situation once I find out what is going to be done about it - I'm dropping it off with Mom and Dad tonight so they can take it in to see the service manager tomorrow. Wish me luck!

Keep it real!

Whoa.....he's no Mark Wahlberg!

Last week Shaundra invited me to see an advance screening of Invincible tonight. I'm always up for a free movie, and I thought it would be fun, so I said yes. Little did I know how much I would have to pay to see my free movie...

When sorting out the details, we decided to meet at the theatre - the paramount downtown. I figure it will be easiest for me to drive to the subway and take it downtown - avoiding traffic and finding a place to park. I left work just before 5 as I figured that I would have to be on the train before 5:30 to make it to the theatre for 6. I hop on at Warden and begin my journey.

At each stop, I look at the trains going in the other direction and think to myself how lucky I am going against the crowds heading out of the city after work. I keep checking my watch to see if I'll be able to make it on time...the train finally pulls into St. Andrew (one stop past where I wanted to get off - last time I ask for subway directions from co-workers, but that's another story). I run up the steps onto the street and circle around trying to figure out where the hell I am. I see a familiar landmark and head in the right direction...or so I thought!

Just then I notice a text message on my cell..."Wrong theatre - i am so sorry! Yonge and eglinton" I reply back "Are you kidding of?" (I hate my T9 sometimes!) Then I try to call Shaundra who seems to be dialing each time she picks up the phone (turns out she was trying to text me back). At this point I must look like one of those annoying city people walking up the street yelling into my cell phone, but strangely enough, I don't think one person was looking at me...oh well - must try harder next time! Once I finally reached Shaundra, I sighed, mumbled under my breath and hopped back on the subway at Osgoode - where I should have got off the first time - to join the masses that I was watching from my seat on the way there.

An hour after first getting on the subway, I finally reach Yonge and Eglinton (which I could have easily driven to and parked nearby for free...) I managed to exit the station at the wrong place, end up on the street in the rain, then when I got to the theatre I had to wait 10 minutes for my veggie burger at BK...and because it was an advance screening, I had my bag searched and had the metal detector wand thingy swiped over me.

Thank god the movie was good! The best line though was at the end of the movie and wasn't scripted. As they are showing the real Vince Papale I hear Shaundra exclaim, "Whoa...He's no Mark Wahlberg!"

I won't even get into the search for the bathroom story...I'm too tired from the long subway ride - at least I got to experience the sights (and smells) of the city!

Good Night,

My dad shot Joe in the face with his Juicy Jumbo wiener juice!!!

Hope y'all had a great weekend!

After another long week at work, I sleepily made my way up to the cottage with Aaron on Friday night. Aaron's sister Jenn and her friend Joe were heading up for the day to chill out and join us for the Peterborough Festival of Lights in the evening - the Trews played on Saturday. Dave was there and Denise came along for dinner and the festival as well.

Saturday morning, Aaron and I went into town and my dad had asked me to pick up some hot dogs - not the little ones, the juicy jumbos that the fam had been enjoying lately. At Sobey's Aaron and I were debating between the Juicy Jumbos and the Schneiders Top Dogs - we went for the Top Dogs. Unfortunately I forgot to count the wieners and when I got to the cottage my dad thought I was nuts only buying one package (6 wieners - 5 people)...so off he went to town to pick up some more. Dad returns with his Juicy Jumbos. The dogs are cooked, we're sitting down at the table enjoying a nice meal. I bite into a pickle and the juice squirts me right up my nose! Little did we know that was just the beginning of the squirting. Next thing that happens should have been video-taped!

My dad shot Joe in the face with his Juicy Jumbo wiener juice!!!

We all sat at the table watching the fluid squirt across the table leaving a streak all down Joe's face and across his shirt. My dad couldn't have planned it better if he tried!

The rest of lunch was uneventful, dinner was fantastic of course! There was an incident trying to get the cork out of the wine bottle - note to self, we need a new corkscrew at the cottage! The 6 of us went to the show after dinner and it was quite nice - I don't think we could have asked for a nicer evening. The Trews were great - there was a completely unnecessary 20 minute drum solo, but the rest of their show was great. Didn't see any festival of lights - they may have happened after the concert was over, but the mosquitoes were biting and one got my eye lid. The drive back to the cottage was creepy and foggy, but relatively uneventful.

I believe that was the gist of the weekend...gotta do it more often. Thanks for coming up this weekend guys - I hope you had fun!

I have a bunch of pug pics to post later - forgot to take blinky to the concert though...oops!

Take care my peeps!

yesterday's quote of the day

This is so funny that I forgot what it was and had to ask Aaron to help me out...

"That was sauteed in wrong sauce" (some dude from Rockstar Supernova)
- Some dude was Tommy Lee - Thanks to Lisa and the repeat of the comment on last night's episode - still funny to me!

Ok, so it was better when I first heard it...

Weekend over again?

The weekend began with dinner and a movie with Shaundra - we saw Pulse. The movie itself wasn't as good as I had hoped, but the whole movie going experience was ruined by the little punks in the theatre. As Shaundra was making her trip to the loo before the show started these 4 individuals sat down in the seats in front of us. I heard them commenting about how easy it was to enter the theatre without paying and I rolled my eyes. One of the young chaps went down to the emergency exit and returned with one or two other young men. I must say that I don't approve, but what can I really do right? The commercials and previews begin and the theatre was quite loud with chatter. The girls behind us took it upon themselves to provide us with an ongoing commentary throughout most of the show. The guys in front decided to tease the girls in front of them - yelling, poking them, talking, the list goes on... Then someone shouts from across the theatre, yelling back and forth ensues... Some girls start a bitch-off - I thought someone was going to lose some hair! Several couples left the theatre and Shaundra and I were contemplating it as well, but we stayed. Finally, two theatre staff and a security guard come in to see what the problem is. They were standing at the side of the theatre for some time trying to figure out who the trouble-makers were, until one woman came to me and asked who was causing the disturbance - at that point in time, it was her - Shaundra said it was pretty much the whole theatre which was pretty accurate, and I just pointed ahead, but immediately feared for my safety for after the show was over - it was Morningside you know! Further discussion/disruption continued for some time...one chick's dad got involved, she moved to the back, there were threats of removing the guys, but they quieted down and the little one in front of me squirmed every time someone went to the bathroom - he seemed a bit frightened that something would happen to them. After all that - the movie ended, the theatre cleared and Shaundra and I went our separate ways until Saturday night.

Saturday - Aaron and I went to Rona and Home Depot investigating flooring options for the new room we want to build in the basement. I think we've found a good option of painting or preferably staining the concrete and using area rugs...economical and attractive! Then on to Shaundra's for a par-tay (pics: http://picasaweb.google.com/reganfick/ShaundraSParty). Fun was had by all - I'll be posting some video soon - I can't explain the evening any better than the video will so I won't try.

Sunday - Pirates of the Caribbean and relaxation - what more can you ask?

And now it's work time... This weekend - the Trews are going to be in Peterborough for the Festival of Lights - If you're interested in joining us, send me a message and I'll forward the details. Until next time, keep your stick on the ice and play safe!

Anyone hear of a chipmunk alarm?

So I forgot to post the funniest part of last weekend!

I know - I should be shot!

I'm lying in bed on Saturday morning - the air was nice and cool and crisp - it's around 7am and the birds are chirping. All snuggly in bed I hear this loud piercing noise - is sounds like an angry bird - chirp, chirp, chirp, chirp....chirp, chirp....this goes on for several minutes and seems to be getting louder or at least has become quite annoying. I hear others around the cottage stir a little, turn over in bed, pull the covers up, squirm a little trying to ignore the incessant noise. I can't take it any more! I jump up from bed - being careful not to knock my noggin on the upper bunk and creep across to the bathroom window fearing that a little bird has gotten itself trapped in the gazebo...no bird...the noise continues....I look down at the deck and at the corner of the cottage sits our cute little friend the chipmunk 'peanut'. Peanut was sitting there looking all cute chirping so loud his/her whole body was shaking. I ran to the kitchen (well stumbled is more like it) grabbed the peanuts, opened the door a crack and tossed out some nuts for the little guy to snack on. To this day, we still are unsure of who it was that set our chipmunk alarm to go off so early on the weekend.

On a side note - some of you may know that I have been attending Weight Watchers meetings - if you've invited me over, I've probably made a pain of myself by requesting there be veggies around and even bringing my own food...well it's paying off! As of last night I have lost 22.4lbs and I'm still going...just was excited about my progress and thought I would share - Thanks for dragging me there Mom!

Probably more exciting stuff after the weekend, so keep checking :)

New photo site

Hi Y'all!!

So I now have a digital camera - which I love - it's so fun!

And now I have a new repository for my photos...instead of the yahoo site which annoyed me regularly, I've moved to the picasa web photo site. After being introduced to Picasa for housing my photos at home, I fell in love with the ease of the tool and it's capabilities, so I jumped to the web version...well Aaron will probable suggest it wasn't much of a jump, but more of a slow long step. Anyway - I'm there now, have uploaded almost all of my NZ pics - it won't take long to do the rest because it's so easy, but I had to leave to go to the cottage on Friday when I started and forgot until just now that I haven't gone back to it yet - oops!

So here's the link to my site http://picasaweb.google.com/reganfick - please feel free to check back - maybe not daily, but with the new camera, I'm sure I'll have more to show on a regular basis now.

Hope you're all well!

Not much new

So there's not much new since the weekend, but I don't want to keep my adoring fans in the dark. I've been very tired lately and am hoping that the long weekend will save me from this state. It is very hot here - like unbearably hot and it is making me cranky!

I finally found out when Sue & Jay are getting hitched, so I now have two weddings on for next year and one in the fall. If you're looking at adding to my commitments, please advise in advance so I will be available - I'm in high demand you know!

Ok, enough of tooting my own horn...I know the 3 of you who actually read this blog are getting sick of it now - I really just wanted something to write so I don't get in trouble for not writing!

I hope everyone is keeping well and staying cool.

Don't be strangers!
C.R.

p.s. I updated the NZ pictures because I was tired of people telling me they were too small!
